Monza to host celebratory GT Cup Europe final round

The time has come: after an exciting journey, the 2025 season of the GT Cup Europe is coming to an end, and it will do so in one of the most prestigious sceneries: the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. There will be a special atmosphere in the Temple of Speed, as all the title fights are over. For the leading contenders, it will be a crowning celebration, and this means that with no big matters at stake, we can expect terrific racing, free of calculations and for the glory only, on the fast 5.793-km track in Lombardy, with twenty-three cars entered for the final round.

OVERALL: THE FIGHT FOR THE BRONZE MEDAL STILL OPEN

In the Overall standings, Luca Franca and Ian Rodríguez have secured the title. The Italian and the Guatemalan, in the Porsche 992 Cup of FAEMS Team, a new squad to the series, have conducted an impressive season, clinching four race wins. Certainly, they will want to wrap up their campaign in style on home soil. And so will want to do the runner-ups, Ludovico Longoni and Pietro Armanni, the young pair of ZRS Motorsport, who have been the good surprise of the year and have collected two wins.

The battle, though, is still open for the final third, with Pro-Am stars Meijer-van den Hengel (Burgers Motorsport by HWM) having a 3-point advantage on Gonçalo Fernandes and Lars Zaenen, the leading pair of Q1 Trackracing.

Also on for a top overall result in Italy is the second 992 fielded by FAEMS Team, with Matteo Luvisi, victorious at Barcelona three weeks ago, associated for the occasion with LodovicoLaurini.

PRO-AM: HURRAH FOR LAURA AND PAUL

The game is also over in the very competitive Pro-Am class, the one that saw the most dominant situation. Laura van den Hengel and Paul Meijer, in the Porsche of Burgers Motorsport by HWM, have conquered six out wins in the ten races held so far. The Dutch pair will go for more records in Italy, with Meijer aiming at sweeping a sixth personal pole.

The class vice champion honours are still open to discussion: Davide Scannicchio and Fabio Babini, the excellent pair of Tsunami RT, get to Italy with a 7-point advantage that should be sufficient, but are still under challenge from the expert Brazilian duo of LMR Motorsport, composed of Peter Furter and Diego Furter.

There will be more candidates for race wins, starting from Nico Saelens and Stienes Longin (Q1 Trackracing) who will want to conclude on a high a somehow frustrating season. SP Racing is back for the final rounds with its usual car for Stefano Zerbi and Eugenio Pisani and a new, very competitive pair, Daniele Cazzaniga and Andrea Galli, in the other.

Team Cars Racing is making a second outing this season, with Riccardo Romagnoli associated this time with Emanuele Romani, while Ebimotors is marking its home round fielding a car (its third) in the Pro-Am class for Gianluca Giorgi and Alberto Cerqui.

There will be interesting new entries too. Halder Motorsport, the well-known German squad that has recently switched from touring car to GT racing, is making its debut in the series, with a Porsche 911 Cup for Mike Halder and Rene Povlsen.

From Italy and defending the colours of the Prancing Horse, EasyRace will also make its debut, with a Ferrari 488 Challenge entered for Diego Di Fabio and Lorenzo Bontempelli. The latter, a familiar face in the GT Sport series and a former GTS champion in the GT Open, will be making a welcome return to the racing scene.

AM: A THREE-WAY BATTLE FOR SECOND

The class for Bronze drivers is the one that sees the most at stake. Behind Leandro Martins and Dieter Svepes, the Brazilian-Austrian pair of LMR Motorsport, who have secured a second consecutive title, the fight for runner-up honours remains open to three contenders.

Cássio de Mello (GDL Racing) is currently second, thanks to his three race wins, but the Brazilian is closely challenged by Cosimo Papi, who won twice in Barcelona and will drive with Paolo Gnemmi the Ebimotors Porsche, and the Q1 Trackracing pair composed of Nathan Brauns and Nico Vandierendonck. Both challengers are tied in points, three from the top.

Regular contenders in the class include Giacomo Giubergia, the other car of GDL Racing, and Luigi Peroni-Nicola Sorrentino in the other Ebimotors Porsche, as well as Romanian outfit RO1 Racing with Camil Perian and Florin Tincescu.

Two Lamborghini Huracans ST will defend the colours of the Sant’Agata’s Bull, with Luciano Privitelio sharing this time the wheel of the Scuderia Villorba Corse car with his son Donovan, and Aggressive Team Italia making a second outing with GT Cup double champion Iván Velasco and Anny Frosio.
